Antonio Galloni, Vinous
The ironically named 2011 Pinot Noir C'est la Vie Wenzlau Vineyard is beautifully focused and layered. Dark red cherries, game, dried flowers, savory herbs, licorice and mint take shape in the glass. This is a wonderfully complete Pinot endowed with tons of personality and character, and one of the highlights of the vintage. Sadly, Lato was able to get this fruit only for one vintage, but his only essay proves what a great site Wenzlau is. Ideally the 2011 needs another year or two to fully come together, but it is already delicious, even at this early stage.
