    Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate: Reviewer, Neal Martin - Tasted at the Montrose vertical in London, the 1947 Montrose was served from magnum. It constitutes one of the best bottles that I have encountered from that legendary vintage. It has a deep color, just a touch of roof tile on the rim. The bouquet is about as fine as you will discover from 1947. For a start, there is less volatility than I notice on other wines—this is quite mild mannered by comparison. However, the definition is outstanding and it delivers extraordinarily precise red berry fruit (strawberry and raspberry), rose petals, damp earth and also a touch of glycerin perhaps. The palate is medium-bodied and certainly not as precocious or hedonistic as its fellow 1947s. This is beautifully structured, as if an award-winning architect had constructed this wine. The focus is astonishing and it gently fans out with sublime and ineffably pure, minerally red fruit on the finish. It must be one of the estate's standouts from the 20th century alongside many others. Tasted June 2016.

    Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate: Reviewer, Neal Martin - Tasted at the Montrose vertical in Stamford, the 1947 Montrose is a truly great Saint Estèphe. Noticeably deeper in color than the 1952 or 1959, it has an impressive bouquet: ample red berry fruit, rusty copper piping, dried blood and damp earth developing in the glass and keeping you hooked. The palate is medium-bodied and as fresh as the aromatics. There is a fine line of acidity here, much less volatility than you often encounter in Bordeaux 1947s, very harmonious with dried orange peel, tobacco and iron filings towards the stocky finish. This is a 1947 that still packs a punch after many decades and it is delicious! Tasted May 2016.
